On the Calotte, on both sides, is depicted the symbol of the Ancient Republic 'Serenissima': the deep red banner bearing the winged lion of St. Mark holding an open book. The ensign is depicted as being moved by a breeze and its lateral branches continue on the back enveloping the head. From the nape of the neck depart two gold lines directed towards the forehead framing the inscription 'INDEPENDENT' in the same colour.
